Qualifications for Certified Knowledge Providers

Minimum eligibility requirements to become CKP:

  • Education: At least baccalaureate degree in STEM, preferably engineering.
  • Industry Experience: At least 6 years of relevant work experience in STEM, preferably in engineering.
  • Certified Professional Engineering Manager: Earning and maintaining the CPEM credential for each instructor.

Eligibility is determined by the ASEM Director of Professional Development and Continuing Education, in consultation with appropriate members of the PD/CE function and the ASEM Board of Directors.

For initial certification and subsequent recertification, the following procedures apply:

1. CKPro's must hold a valid and current CPEM credential. Each individual trainer must hold the CPEM even if employed by a CKP organization.

2. The ASEM Director of Professional Development and Continuing Educationwill review applications for CKP status and determine eligibility, in consultation with appropriate ASEM Board of Directors members or designated committee.

a. Resume—Reviewed by at least two members of PD/CE and/or ASEM leadership.

i. Criteria—training, education, relevance of experience.

b. CPEM—verify issuance and expiration. Applicants with < 6 mo. until expiration are given probationary CKP until renewed.

c. Review training plans—viable, focused on target certification, lead to exams and certification.

d. Verify fees paid.

e. Execute NDA/confidentiality agreement.

f. Summary review: Approved/not approved for more documentation needed or payment of fees.

3. Certification is at the discretion of ASEM and may be terminated by the Director, President, or Executive Director at any time based on:

a. Lack of consistency of training content with the current edition of the “A Guide to the Engineering Management Body of Knowledge"

b. Unacceptable evaluations of delivered training modules or courses based on the results of student evaluations from sanctioned training

c. Unacceptable results of any quality audit of the CKP courses or modules by ASEM

d. Violation of Memorandum of Understanding

e. Evidence of unprofessionalism unbecoming of ASEM.

4. Recertification at the end of the initial period or subsequent periods is valid for two years and may be granted by the Director based on the following:

a. Acceptable instructor evaluations from delivered training programs and other positive feedback from training.

b. Acceptable audit results, if any.

c. Recertification will be based on any revisions to CKPro guidelines that may have been adopted since last agreement was signed, including new fee structures, requirements, and eligibility guidelines.

5. Maintaining and continuing without lapse in ASEM membership:

a. If the CKP is an individual, an individual ASEM professional membership.

b. If the CKP is a training company or organization, an ASEM Bronze Level or higher corporate membership and professional memberships for individual trainers.
