CSPE/OSPE Engineering Manager Professional Certification

Background

Overview

The American Society for Engineering Management (ASEM) has partnered with the Canadian Society of Professional Engineers (CSPE), the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers (OSPE), to offer Professional certifications in Canada. There are two professional certifications offered, the Certified Associate in Engineering Management® (CAEM®) and the Certified Professional in Engineering Management® (CPEM®).

The CAEM® is designed for young technical professionals seeking to establish credentials in preparation for early technical management or supervisory assignments. The focus of the certification is to document the candidate has the requisite EMBoK knowledge to provide a foundation for professional practice. The CAEM® Certification is valid for three years, can be renewed once, and requires verification of continuing education for renewal. The goal is to progress to the Certified Professional in Engineering Management® (CPEM®) during the CAEM® interval.

The CPEM®

is designed to recognize experienced professionals who are seeking to validate with a professional certification their skills, knowledge, and experience in the management of technical operations. The focus of this application is to document the candidate has the requisite background for approval to sit for the examination. The CPEM® Certification is valid for three years and requires verification of continuing education for renewal.

The examination fees include a one-year membership in ASEM and access to full professional member benefits.


Certified Associate in Engineering Management® (CAEM®)

The Certified Associate in Engineering Management® (CAEM®) is jointly offered in Canada by the Canadian Society of Professional Engineers (CSPE) and the American Society for Engineering Management (ASEM). Professional certification at this level is designed for young technical professionals seeking to establish credentials in preparation for early technical management or supervisory assignments. If you do not have Professional Engineer status in Canada, this is the certification for you. The focus of the certification is to document the candidate has the requisite EMBoK knowledge to provide a foundation for professional practice. The CAEM® Certification is valid for three years, can be renewed once, and requires verification of continuing education for renewal. The goal is to progress to the Certified Professional in Engineering Management® (CPEM®) during the CAEM® interval.

The CAEM® examination fee of $205 CAD includes a one-year membership in ASEM and access to full professional member benefits.

A complete application package must be sent to professionalcertification@asem.org and should include:

  1. Complete and submit electronic CAEM® application.
  2. Send degree transcript to professionalcertification@asem.org. A digital copy of the official transcript is preferred; an unofficial transcript will be accepted with a copy of the diploma. If you are a student or intern member of OSPE, you do not have to submit your transcript information.
  3. Send OSPE Payment Receipt from registration at https://ospe.on.ca/event/certified-associate-in-engineering-management-caem/ to professionalcertification@asem.org.

Certified Professional in Engineering Management® (CPEM®)

The Certified Professional in Engineering Management® (CPEM®) is jointly offered in Canada by the Canadian Society of Professional Engineers (CSPE) and the American Society for Engineering Management (ASEM). This certification is designed to recognize experienced professionals who are seeking to validate with a professional certification their skills, knowledge, and experience in the management of technical operations. If you are a Professional Engineer in Canada, this is the certification for you. The focus of this application is to document the candidate has the requisite background for approval to sit for the examination. The CPEM® Certification is valid for three years and requires verification of continuing education for renewal.

The CPEM® examination fee of $340 CAD includes a one-year membership in ASEM and access to professional member benefits.

A complete application package must be sent to professionalcertification@asem.org and should include:

  1. Complete and submit electronic application. On application, you will need to complete summary of your experience and document prior experience, mapping experience to required EMBOK domains unless you are registered as a Professional Engineering with CSPE.
  2. Send OSPE payment receipt from registration through https://ospe.on.ca/event/certified-professional-in-engineering-management-cpem/ to professionalcertification@asem.org.
  3. Send degree transcript to professionalcertification@asem.org. A digital copy of the official transcript is preferred; an unofficial transcript will be accepted with a copy of the diploma.*
  4. Send your resume / CV summarizing your work experience.*

* Note: Steps 3 and 4 are not required if registered as a Professional Engineer with CSPE.
