Scope

The Certified Knowledge Provider program is a joint effort of the American Society for Engineering Management (ASEM) and its global force of certified trainers. The purpose of this page is to set standards and procedures to certify Knowledge Providers so they may deliver high-quality ASEM-sanctioned training to support ASEM professional certifications and continuing education. ASEM certified knowledge providers are authorized to teach the content for the Engineering Management Professional Certification examinations: the Certified Associate in Engineering Management (CAEM®), the Certified Professional in Engineering Management (CPEM®), Six Sigma Green Belt (SSGB) and other certifications as may be developed by ASEM.

Any training delivered under the auspices of the Certified Knowledge Provider program agreement and using the ASEM logo or name shall be referred to as “ASEM-sanctioned.”

Benefits of Certification

Certified Knowledge Providers are authorized to deliver ASEM-certified training courses or programs to organizations or groups of individuals with the following benefits. Note that individuals serving as Certified Knowledge Providers must be an ASEM professional member in good standing.

  1. As ASEM members, Certified Knowledge Providers have electronic access to certain ASEM publications. Instructors may choose to purchase and utilize ASEM slide sets and videos. Print copies of ASEM publications can be purchased at ASEM member prices.
  2. Certified Knowledge Providers may present themselves as agents of ASEM in marketing and delivering ASEM-sanctioned training modules or courses.
  3. Certified Knowledge Providers may use the ASEM logo and name on promotional materials to market and deliver ASEM-sanctioned training modules or courses. Any other use of the ASEM logo and name is prohibited. See https://asem.org/Logo-Usage-Standards for the full policy.
  4. Certified Knowledge Providers may negotiate their own training fee structure with groups or individuals.

Requirements for Certified Knowledge Providers

To become a Certified Knowledge Provider, an individual or organization must pay a license fee of $250 USD that is required for the initial certification period of 2 years. Subsequent re-certifications, as described in Certification Procedures, require a $250 USD recertification fee. This fee is separate from the required ASEM professional membership dues.

Certified Knowledge Providers must:

1.  Hold an ASEM professional membership.

a.  If the Certified Knowledge Provider is an individual, an individual professional membership.

b.  If the Certified Knowledge Provider is a training company or organization, a Bronze Level or higher ASEM corporate membership. All instructors delivering ASEM-sanctioned training must hold a Professional Membership.

2.  Ensure ASEM-sanctioned training is delivered to students in a professional environment that will reflect positively on ASEM.

3.  Deliver content that is consistent with and supports the information found in the current edition of the “A Guide to the Engineering Management Body of Knowledge.” This is the requirement that authorizes the Certified Knowledge Provider to deliver content defined as “ASEM-sanctioned.

4.  For any delivered ASEM-sanctioned training, Certified Knowledge Providers must notify ASEM WHQ 30 days prior to start with the following information:

a. Title of the course, start/end dates, and the syllabus.

b. Name of the instructor(s)

c. A list of participants enrolled in every ASEM-sanctioned training

5.  A resume must be provided for each instructor delivering the ASEM-sanctioned training.

6.  Require all enrolled students to complete an ASEM-provided survey evaluation for the delivered course and share those results with ASEM.


Certified Knowledge Providers represent ASEM while providing ASEM-sanctioned training. Therefore, Certified Knowledge Providers may be subject to periodic audits by ASEM to ensure it is conforming to ASEM guidelines and procedures.
