Industry Tours ~ Wednesday, October 17, 2018

Tour 1:  Chilco Mill - Athol, Idaho; $20 per participant 

50 people max. Depart from CDA Resort Lobby at 12pm. Return by 3pm.

This tour requires walking and stair climbing. See safety information below. Tour this 248-acre facility, located just north of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, to see a technologically advanced mill producing up to 280 million board feet of lumber per year. Dimensions range from 2×4 through 2×12 up to 20-foot lengths. Customers include major home centers, construction suppliers and retailers across North America and the globe.

Participant restrictions: 

  • Always wear closed toe shoes, hardhat, vest, safety glasses and hearing protection during tour (will be provided).
  • Be aware of changing weather conditions and dress appropriately.
  • No shorts allowed.
  • Always remain with your designated tour group and on tour path.
  • Be sure to use 3-point contact while traveling up or down stairways.
  • On the tour, you will  be walking up and down many flights of stairs. You may cover up to 00 acres indoor and outdoor.
  • If you have questions, pelase as your tour guide at any time during your tour.
  • Caution: our equipment is automatic and can start or stop at any time without warning (keep your hands to yourself and near you).
  • This is a tobacco free premise.
  • No weapons are permitted on site.

Tour 2:  Innovation Den - Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; $20 per participant 

Two groups of 20. Depart from CDA Resort Lobby at 2:15pm and 2:45pm.  1-Hr tours. 

Demonstrations will include: bipedal robots with multiple sensors to allow for interactivity. Their capabilities include human like joints powered by servos. Additionally, our student designed LED “Goofy glasses” that are featured at the U of I Football half time shows will be available. Participants will be exposed to robotics, optics, and applied subjects in Computer Science to make connections to real world applications.

Our robotics laboratory will be demonstrating how to use a robot for complex tasks. We will discuss how it works and then our friend Baxter the Robot will be making coffee!

Student Case Competition  ~  Friday, October 19, 2018

At ASEM’s International Annual Conference, teams of students in Engineering Management and related fields compete to solve complex cases in engineering and technology management and present results. These teams come from various universities and are chosen based on their ability to analyze problems, develop feasible solutions, and effectively present results and recommendations.

    • Prior to 60 days - 100% (before August 18, 2018)
    • 60-30 days - 50% (before September 17, 2018)
    • Within 30 days - no refunds possible
